Nature And Landscape

Living with Wildcats

Living with Wildcats is a five-year project which aims to restore much-loved wildcats and equally endangered but lesser-known native invertebrates, bringing them back from the brink of extinction so they can become flagships for the health of Scotland’s forest and grassland landscapes. Building on the momentum of conservation action over recent decades, and working closely with communities and people from diverse backgrounds, Living with Wildcats will deliver five key outcomes: - Support the newly released wildcat population towards reaching a self-sustaining level. - Restore endangered native invertebrates to the forest and grassland landscapes where wildcats live. - Work with specialists to trial innovative technologies to increase the efficiency of reintroduction fieldwork and share learning to benefit more species/habitats. - Engage a wide range of people, particularly from local communities, in opportunities to learn about reintroduced species, gain skills, volunteer and develop careers. - Give wildcats a sustainable future in Scotland by scoping and establishing a new release site and embedding skills in partner organisations and volunteer networks.
