Nature And Landscape
Our vision: Deliver a multidisciplinary landscape-scale project to restore, connect and conserve the natural and cultural heritage of the South Wales Valleys for the benefit of both people and planet. Focussing on habitats, people and heritage across four Valleys and the uplands that connect them, we aim to: • Enable nature recovery & climate change adaptation through habitat restoration/management, improving connectivity & conservation of key wildlife species. • Provide opportunities for communities to improve education, skills & wellbeing, through interactive community engagement sessions and training. • Promote place-making and preserve cultural identity through revealing the story of landscape change and how people have interacted with it throughout time. By: • Identifying and enhancing ecological connections across the landscape, to improve the long-term resilience of ecological networks. • Restoring and improving natural carbon sinks and wildlife habitats through physical interventions, sustainable management, and monitoring, ensuring their future functioning. • Delivering learning and educational opportunities for multi-generational communities to improve knowledge and understanding of habitats and their significance for the nature and climate emergencies. • Improving health and wellbeing of residents through supported sessions that encourage community cohesion, confidence building and opportunities for progression. • Increasing community skills and engendering site stewardship through heritage skills-based sessions, accredited courses and volunteering. • Identifying and explaining culturally significant heritage throughout time, to celebrate and conserve it for future generations. • Communicating our messages utilising the arts and digital media, in accessible formats including Welsh; to deepen people’s understanding of their relationship with this landscape and provide a record for the future.
