Culture And Memory
LOWRY TURNS 25 – a landmark year for culture and Salford communities
To celebrate and preserve the story of how The Lowry has transformed Salford Quays from post-industrial wasteland to cultural heart and storytelling centre of Salford. How over the last 25 years The Lowry's role has been to reflect and express the changes in our communities, the region and the wider world. On the foundations of our namesake LS Lowry, we'll champion and place front and centre the working-class, hidden communities whom Lowry brought to the world's attention. We will capture and curate the stories of those who have who witnessed, shaped and participated in Salford’s cultural regeneration, documenting the difference The Lowry made to people’s lives and to Salford. We will leave a lasting physical and digital legacy, fostering a deeper understanding of Salford’s unique cultural and social heritage amongst those that live, work or visit here; supporting Salfordians to engage with local heritage, and record their place within it.
