2026 sees the 70th anniversary of the Hollywood classic Moby Dick. The film – directed by John Huston and starring Gregory Peck– was filmed in Fishguard. Locals can still recall when the glamour of Tinsel Town came to West Wales, the legend of the model whale lost at sea, the thrill of seeing Gregory Peck in the local fish and chip shop. Our vision is to record and catalogue those memories and celebrate the town’s connection with the film and mark our annual On Land’s Edge festival with a community lantern parade headed by a giant white whale. The legacy will focus on the whale – only a few years ago a humpback whale was spotted in the bay bringing the town to a standstill. The project will examine and celebrate Fishguard’s relationship with its precious marine environment and leave a legacy of pride and wonder.
