Nature And Landscape

Moor Invertebrates

Dartmoor National Park (DNP), an Important Invertebrate Area (IIA), is home to several rare invertebrates at risk of extinction in the UK. ‘Moor Invertebrates’ will benefit eight rare priority species, working with landowners to restore and improve management of their habitat, and surveys to improve our knowledge of their distribution and ecology (inputting results into habitat restoration work); to benefit other wildlife too. Engaging educational events (school sessions, bug hunts, and species identification workshops) will be delivered to communities across Dartmoor and surrounding areas and in co-ordination with others already working in the area. A locally inspired ‘letterboxing' and accessible trail will highlight the eight priority species at key locations within DNP and introduce people to additional invertebrates that also make Dartmoor their home. The project will improve and increase the number of invertebrate records in DNP and Devon through the training of volunteers at workshops, events, and targeted surveys.
