Culture And Memory

Morecambe's D Day and VE Day memories

We aim to interview between 12 -15 veterans who saw active service during WWII including the armed forces, auxiliary services and workers in factories or on the land. The Interviews will be conducted by local young people, will be video recorded and edited into short interview films (c5-10 minutes), uploaded onto YouTube and promoted via social media. Visual material collected from the interviews and other sources will create an exhibition celebrating the 80th Anniversary of D Day and VE Day in Morecambe and surrounding areas. The exhibition will run for twelve months (May 2025 - May 2026), will be open to the public free of charge, and will target community groups including schools, local unemployed, special interest groups, disabled and older people's groups, as well as visitors to Morecambe. We will attract at least 7,000 locals and visitors to the exhibition, and a further 12,000 remote viewers of the films.
