Near Far Heron

We wish to achieve and develop the unique training of a millwright, over a three-year period, with our own millwright/miller (one of the few in the UK) at Heron Corn Mill, including gaining experience and training at other watermills in the north west with whom we have been in contact. The subsequent training of a dedicated group of volunteers will further assist in continued advice and help with other watermills throughout the northern region (as far as the Scottish borders) where there are currently no millwrights. Millwrighting is now on the Red List of endangered list of crafts, so projects of this kind are urgently needed, and we are well placed to deliver this. An update on mills' condition surveys will be made of these mills available digitally on our website and North West Mills Group page.
