Nelson: My place to come to go out

With this project we would like to raise historical awareness across Nelson of the town’s rich heritage of music, cinema and night-time culture. A big part of our consultation for This is Nelson demonstrated an appetite for a heritage focused project that reflects on and archives the heritage of the town’s music, cinema and night-time culture and how a greater historical awareness of this could influence a future re-imagining of the town. Furthermore, the creation of a sound booth archive and the use of found and collected images will create a shared and collective memory experience that will encourage a diversity of voices and communities in Nelson to re-connect with the rich musical and cultural history and heritage of their town at a time when there is a real lack of social night time spaces across the town centre, following recent closures of local cultural venues and night time spaces.
