North East Disability History: Past, Present & Future
Through a celebration of disability history in the north east, we want to put smiles on the faces of disabled people and give them the confidence that comes with knowing your past, understanding your present and enabling them to imagine a better future. Using the 30-year anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act, as a reference/hook, we would like to shine a light and record how our hard fought struggles were achieved, what that meant for disabled people and what were we trying to achieve. By rediscovering our Heritage, we will reimagine this years disability history month, and centre disabled people in their own history, enabling them to be proud of those things that came before. We will then develop this into a continuing celebration of our heritage and importantly allowing us to reimagine what we want the future to look like.
