Culture And Memory

Northern Force

Co-created with supporters, past and current players, and community-centric organisations, ‘Northern Force’ represents a celebration of Sale Sharks. 2005 and 2006 were unique moments in the history of the club. Fresh from adopting the Sharks name, the club claimed its first European Challenge Cup victory before becoming Guiness Premiership champions the following season. On their twentieth anniversary, these milestones will be the catalyst for engaging our community in a celebration of our heritage, with activity strands prioritising intergenerational learning, memory preservation, and greater wellbeing. Across a two-year period, we will 1) use rugby heritage to inspire six-hundred children to seek additional heritage activities in their community, 2) use rugby reminiscence to empower 200 older people to improve their wellbeing through heritage engagement, and (3) create a podcast series with the players who made up the title winning sides, preserving their recollections for supporters to enjoy now and in the future.
