Northumberland Coast Dark Skies: Conserving and connecting the nocturnal heritage of the Northumberland Coast National Landscape

Our vision is for the dark skies of the Northumberland Coast to be conserved, now and in the future, for people and for nature. Through our project, we will protect and conserve the dark skies of the Northumberland Coast, reversing and limiting light pollution, supporting conservation of nocturnal heritage and wildlife and ensuring that the stars can be seen and night-time tranquillity experienced for generations to come. We will build connections between people and the landscape at night, fostering a sense of wonder and awe at the geographical and temporal scale of the night skies and building understanding of the wildlife that thrives in dark places. Engagement, training, and advocacy will strengthen our organisation and support local communities and wider stakeholders in championing dark skies and nocturnal heritage after our project ends. The Northumberland Coast will become an exemplar in Dark Sky conservation and engaging people with nocturnal heritage.
