One Voice: Stories from Survivors

Delivered by Zinthiya Ganeshpanchan Trust (ZGT), One Voice will record and platform the oral history accounts of domestic violence/abuse (DV/A) survivors & professionals living in Leicester over the last 50 years, investigating how the culture/law/experiences around these issues have changed. Specifically, One Voice (OV) will highlight underrepresented perspectives from diverse backgrounds; delving into less commonly understood forms of abuse which remain ‘hidden’ from archives/heritage projects. Volunteers (all survivors) work with heritage professionals to gather, research, contextualise & enliven accounts for a wider audience. We envision the legacy of this project as: A) Preserving key first-hand accounts of DV/A, in survivors’ own words, highlighting a persistent/complex problem. B) Shedding light on a vital aspect of local heritage that goes unrecorded; providing a resource for researchers/communities/individuals. C) Creating deeply cathartic experiences for interviewees/volunteers/audiences; their stories are heard/recognisable in outputs. D) Supporting underrepresented people with grassroots heritage work/skills development, building pathways into heritage.
