Operation Give a Dam

We will restore lost wetlands and improve ecosystem resilience at landscape scale through the reintroduction of beaver to the wild in the Severn Vale and the successful re-establishment of the natural processes they provide. Bringing back beavers will restore a key element of our lost natural heritage. We will empower stakeholders to be “beaver ready”, building support and facilitating the upskilling of landowners and local authorities in preparation for the arrival of beaver. We will support coexistence between humans and beavers in the long term by engaging with children and local communities around the benefits they bring. We will coordinate beaver reintroduction and management at an unprecedented and truly landscape scale, working with partners across not just the Severn Vale catchment but at a strategic level across the Severn River Basin, to optimise outcomes for both beavers and people.
