Organisational Resilience for the Friends of Stockton & Darlington Railway
The Friends of Stockton and Darlington Railway (FS&DR) aim to capitalise on a decade of investment and volunteering by developing a sustainable plan to protect, preserve, and promote the heritage of the railway that got the world on track beyond its bicentenary in 2025. Supported by S&DR Rail Heritage Board, comprising key stakeholders, the vision is for S&DR to be a world-class heritage attraction boosting economic growth, fostering curiosity, participation and education and developing community innovation and opportunity. To achieve this vision, FS&DR must build capacity and undergo organisational development. This project will enable essential work, including a Conservation Management Plan, a Business Plan, an asset transfer study, a Fundraising Strategy and the creation of a Business Development post, crucial for generating future income. This long-term vision will ensure lasting impact, beyond the Heritage Fund’s support (finishing in 2028), securing the railway's legacy for future generations.
