We increase access and inclusion within the heritage sector through a flagship programme of training, participation in public engagement events, mentoring and internship. A diverse cohort of 10 young people (21-25) increase their skills, confidence and awareness of the diverse range of opportunities within the heritage sector. Each trainee selects a heritage object to research, with 'buddy' support from experienced mudlarks. They unpack its historical context, revealing the river’s connections to global trade, migration and empire. The research will be published and disseminated during Totally Thames festival, which provides a focus for public-facing activities including talks, walks and short films. We deliver a London-Living wage paid programme of training, workshops with professionals, heritage site visits, participation in public engagement events and one-on-one career-development mentoring. Significantly, paid, skill-development internships will also be offered at The London Archives, MOLA and Royal Museums Greenwich, further benefiting onward career progression.
