Culture And Memory
Our project aims to record the stories of Caribbeans coming to England between the late 40s and 70s through interviews and focus groups, who worked for the NHS to help it establish a reputation of caring excellence. Their experiences will be used to produce printed and digital resources and opportunities for in person recounting that will educate the public on the extent and nature of their contribution. Insights will also be provided into the challenges they faced and the cultural influences and motivations that enabled them to overcome a range of barriers to establish a new life in the UK whilst channelling their energy into supporting this fledgling national health service.
