Our School: Roots to Heritage

To celebrate its 300th anniversary year, Charles Williams Church in Wales Primary School, in partnership with Gwent Archives, will research its history - from Georgian origin to history in living memory. In collaboration with pupils, teachers, artists, and heritage experts, it will explore Gwent Archives’ collections and the National Roman Legionary Museum's school fields excavations, as well as collect up to eight new oral histories from members of the local community, whether ex-pupil or school staff. The whole school will be involved in the development of this heritage learning and public engagement programme that will share the school’s rich history with the wider community that surrounds it. Intergenerational in tone, the school will research, develop and deliver a series of bespoke events - including an interactive family-friendly exhibition, specialist history talks, a heritage walk and a family fun day – for the wider community of Caerleon and its surrounding areas.
