Our stories(Discovering our LGBT+ Hidden Histories)/The forgotten stories of the falling tombstones
LGBT+ history is sparse and has been hidden or destroyed. We aim to locate vital documents and information and use this to build on the successes of our 'Other Stories Project’ including more stories from women, BAME communities and refugees. Linking these stories with the effects of HIV will be a strong and important thread. AIDS was one of the biggest battles we have faced in the last 50 years. Derbyshire LGBT+ was initially created to support people with HIV. We have grown and developed since 1983 and still work to reduce cases and address stigma. We have striven to support our communities to ensure they can access effective education and treatment. The history of HIV and our community is in danger of being lost forever. The battles we fought so hard for must not have been in vain. LGBT+ people must access and appreciate all aspects of our history.
