Our Story (Working Title)

Through oral histories, we aim to capture and preserve the stories of trans+ people living in Nottinghamshire, uncovering an unrecorded part of the region’s heritage. In collaboration with Nottinghamshire Archives,Mansfield Museum, University of Loughborough, Notts Trans Hub and My Place Youth Centre,Mansfield, we seek to strengthen connections with LGBTQ+ communities and empower participants to reclaim their narratives, contributing to the preservation of their own histories. Our goal is to amplify trans+ voices, challenge stereotypes, and ensure that stories, often overlooked, are preserved in archives and understood through creative outputs. We aim to foster inclusivity and address the underrepresentation of trans+ history in the museum and heritage sector, creating a multifaceted and accurate portrayal of trans+ experiences. The legacy of the project will be an accessible, lasting cultural resource that empowers trans+ communities and reshapes how their histories are understood and represented, ensuring their stories are valued for generations to come.
