Culture And Memory

Palladiums of the North

Flux Rotherham will establish Palladiums of the North as a sustainable, borough-wide model for identifying, recording, interpreting and preserving Rotherham’s social and community heritage with local people and Rotherham Museums, Arts and Heritage. The project focuses on underrepresented histories held in memory, personal collections and informal archives, particularly the social and entertainment culture of working men’s clubs, community venues and everyday spaces of gathering from the 1950s to the 1990s. Building on lessons from our 2025 National Lottery Heritage Fund project, The Sensational Alzanas and Other Daredevils, we will use creative, community-led methods to recover at-risk heritage and transfer it to public collections for long-term safeguarding. Through oral histories, digitisation, exhibitions, immersive events and digital interpretation, communities will help shape how their histories are recorded and shared. The project will leave a lasting legacy through new collections, stronger partnerships and a tested framework for inclusive contemporary collecting across Rotherham.
