Park Life: Celebrating the stories of Leigh Park. A Heritage Project. (Working title)

Young people describe Leigh Park being a place where there is 'nothing to do'. Where 'everything is crap', where 'other people look down their nose at them'. We want to challenge these preconceptions and create an inclusive project where young volunteers, not in education, employment or training (NEET), can undertake a programme of activity to learn and understand their area better by learning about its heritage, engaging with older generations and creating materials for an exhibition that celebrates and recognises the 60th anniversary of the shopping precinct, Greywell, in the centre of Leigh Park as well as the 80th anniversary of the building of Leigh Park housing estate - at one time the largest housing estate in Europe. We will bring project volunteers, residents, businesses and organisations with us on a journey to rebuild a sense of civic pride, looking at where they live in a new, more positive way.
