Culture And Memory
We will explore and celebrate the unique heritage of Nirvana FC, Leicester’s multicultural football team whose history is intertwined with the social and political narratives of the most diverse city in the UK. Nirvana emerged from the Red Star project with a mission to shift politics from passive observation to active engagement. Against a backdrop of high unemployment, Red Star sought to challenge systemic injustices and empower marginalised communities. We will present findings in an outdoor exhibition in Leicester City Centre produced by Art Reach (Journeys Festival International) in collaboration with Nirvana F.C., Highfields Centre and De Montfort University (DMU). This exhibition will encapsulate a programme of work exploring this important heritage and how it was created by those newly arrived into the city. A filmmaker will be attached to the process to make a short documentary film to be shown alongside the exhibition and screened across the festival weekend.
