Culture And Memory
(1) We aim to celebrate the many communities of diverse heritage that live or work in London SE6; (2) to train a number of young people and equip them with interviewing skills in order to record some of this heritage, that is now threatened; (3) to focus especially on those aspects of heritage that have enabled these communities to find hope and resilience through difficult times; (4) using this research, to create a community performance, featuring 10 diverse community groups in sequence, plus an additional performance element common to all participants, with composed music, dance, storytelling inspired by the participants’ traditions, reaching max 600 people. (5) We aim to nurture an inter-cultural and inter-generational project passing stories from older to younger generations locally, to celebrate different local cultures, to create stronger, cohesive and more resilient communities, and inspire younger generations with knowledge of heritage that is under threat.
