Culture And Memory
Past Futures: A People's History of the Isle of Wight
This project will establish a small, grassroots fund and capacity building programme to build confidence, celebrate and shift the perception of the people and history of the Isle of Wight, focusing on our towns, villages, workplaces, customs and traditions that shape us as a distinctive set of communities. We intend to increase the knowledge, confidence and skills of the museum and wider heritage sector through a programme of capacity building and small grants of £8k to £10k, to support a diverse range of community partners to reflect the Island's heritage in their own, unique ways. The programme will encourage collaboration and co-curation as well as engaging new audiences thus strengthening identity, pride and confidence in ourselves. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation will utilise accessible processes to reach a broad and oftentimes new audience through a programme that we will track, evaluate, learn from, and share.
