Paul O’Grady Be Inspired

Switchflicker CIO in partnership with Wirral Council, Andre Portasio, Joan Marshrons and DuoVision plan to deliver an ambitious heritage project preserving and commemorating the life of Paul O’Grady as a passionate LGBTQIA+ activist, performer, advocate and children’s author from Birkenhead. Paul and his alter ego Lily Savage brought gay culture into the mainstream in the context of the 1990s Section 28 becoming a much-loved British prime-time TV host and LGBTQIA+ icon. To celebrate and preserve Paul's legacy, life and contribution to LGBT History Be Inspired will: - Curate an Exhibition featuring new archive displays in Williamson Gallery. - Curate a Digital Archive from collections featuring photographic portraits, costume and audio. - Produce an Oral Histories Collection with key personalities, local LGBTQIA+ community in the Wirral and Vauxhall. - Design Outreach programmes around Paul’s children’s books - Commission Creative responses. - Design a Heritage trail of Birkenhead Park and the riverfront.
