Pioneers of the Material World: Invention and Innovation in the Lancashire Textile Industry in the 20th century

Pioneers of the Material World presents previously untold stories of remarkable textile invention and innovation in Lancashire, presented in 2 significant exhibitions and a new sculptural installation hosted in heritage buildings, co-created with the communities who live here and the people who were there. Much of this history is just within living memory and at risk of being lost as the decades pass without being told, the locations that hold it sitting silently in neighbourhoods where people need to have their histories valued and pride in place restored, to show how Lancashire changed the world and how it can do again for the better of the planet. We believe the quality of the exhibitions will inspire the future use and ambition of the locations where they are presented, including the new arts space 123 Lower StJames Street & Newtown Mill in Burnley,The Fusebox Blackburn and the newly re-opened Harris Museum.
