Culture And Memory
The project will educate the school children of Barnsley in the rich sporting heritage of the mines and miners that once populated the town. Many young people will use a former miners welfare for recreational sport we want them to know why it is there and what sports and past time the miners would have enjoyed. We want the former miners to be the ones going into schools and telling their stories first hand. They will complete talks and then run sports sessions for the children with the assistance of our sports staff. The miners will also complete recorded sessions so these memories are not lost. we will use each surviving miners welfare as a base to then run sports and games days for local schools. On each welfare we would like an interactive board with a QR code which will take user to the oral histories collected online.
