Pleasley Pit Trust – A coal mining heritage, preserved and revitalised for generations to come; underpinned by a sustainable future focussed on People, Place and Nature.

Regardless of the awards received for the restoration of its two steam winding engines and the immense efforts of our team of dedicated volunteers, Pleasley Pit Trust is facing an existential threat. Like many heritage charities it has failed, over the last 25 years, to adapt away from its founding ‘preservation’ principles to enterprise. That said, early in 2025 the Trust began a fundamental review and revamp of its operations, governance and economic model. With a new sustainable vision based on People, Place and Nature, PPT is now on a journey to deliver its heritage impact via a range of diverse and sustainable income streams. There are some very positive signs but the transition both culturally and economically needs some further immediate support. We’d like the help of NHL to complete this development and help PPT become the resilient charity it is now capable of becoming.
