Putting the moss back in Moss Side

Sow the City are putting the moss back in Moss Side! Our project explores the forgotten mosslands of this inner-city neighbourhood, which is named after a great moss stretching from Rusholme to Chorlton-cum-Hardy and encompassing the Moss Side ward. Through exploration of city maps and archives, and inspirational trips to beautiful Greater Manchester wetland sites, we aim to empower residents to become stewards of the natural environment. Alongside the community we’ll create new blue spaces – ponds, wetlands, raingardens, which improve air and water quality, help to tackle climate change and provide vibrant green spaces for people and wildlife. This project isn't just about restoring a lost ecosystem; it's about reviving a sense of community pride and inspiring a more sustainable future for Moss Side.
