REST

Rest is a first-of-its-kind new heritage project with refugees and asylum seekers that uses chamber music to excavate oral history recordings (in the form of stories/memories/music) to reveal new chapters in the UK’s 100-year migration past. Aims: -excavate, platform and archive forgotten and/or silenced migration histories; -broaden and deepen our collective understanding of the UK’s 100 year migration history; -cultivate migrant communities’ pride in sharing and witnessing their migration histories. Legacy: -new & forgotten stories of migration added to the heritage canon; -a more ‘complete picture’ of the UK’s migration history over the past 100 years; -raised awareness of the experiences of migrant communities among general public; -harmful migration myths debunked leading to more tolerant & cohesive society; -future generations celebrating positive legacy of their ancestors; -richer evidence base for academics/researchers/historians; -access to heritage widened for migrant groups; -sustainable creative migrant communities that are empowered, connected & proud.
