Culture And Memory
REVERB will preserve and celebrate the heritage of Barrow-in Furness' grass-roots pop music industry over several decades. In partnership with our local museum, archives and practitioners, we will produce a community Pop Culture Archive for Barrow, accessible physically and online. Public calls and research will provide ephemera and anecdotes from musicians, audience members, promoters, record shop owners and designers through coffee mornings, oral history sessions, research events and workshops, at our base in Barrow Park and other public realm spaces. REVERB will collect voices, memories and artefacts from within a cultural industry of creativity and entrepreneurialism that grew from our community in response to its enthusiasms. REVERB creates a point of intersection between personal memory and civic history. It will be valued by local people who provide the material, by the inheritors of the scenes they created, and by new generations looking for positive and engaging histories of their town.
