Rocket 2030
2029/30 sees the 200th anniversary of the Rainhill Trails and the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway the world’s first inter-city railway. The project will be part of the wider “Rail 200” celebration, beginning in 2025 with the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Major L&M celebrations were held in 1930 and 1980, and 2030 represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity with huge potential for impact on heritage, culture, and regeneration. The story of the L&M has colossal opportunities to connect areas of interest around built heritage, landscape, the history of communities, engineering, trains, and a sense of place across the North West, uniting cities, towns, and villages along the route. This project will lay the groundwork for Rocket 2030 leaving in place a transformative blueprint and action plan for delivery, setting the stage for lasting success and ensuring that it not only meets but exceeds its ambitious goals.
