Rolling the Dice: Our Community Quest to Define the Hidden Stories of Sunderland's Cultural and Lived Heritage

In response to recent unrest and riots in Sunderland, and to combat intolerance and fear of otherness, we believe it is imperative as part of cultivating a safe, welcoming and inclusive community that projects are developed that tackle hatred and prejudice. We will work with vulnerable, autistic adults, BAME, Muslim, LGBTQIA+, and white British communities to co-create a City-specific board game, through community-led workshops, based on the history of Sunderland. This will offer attendees an opportunity to create a project to serve as a gateway to learning about the cultural heritage and history of the city in which they live, as well as each other. They will learn through historic examples that the integration of outside communities into our own have made us stronger and has led to innovation, strong commerce and a richer cultural life. This completed project will then be distributed to local community groups, providing project legacy.
