Nature And Landscape
Roots of Kesteven envisions a living Lincolnshire landscape where woodlands, heritage, and communities thrive together. Our goal is to bring ancient and secondary woodlands, many of which are neglected, back into sustainable management, restoring their ecological richness while safeguarding historic features such as woodland archaeology, boundary markers, and veteran trees. By creating new woodland linkages, we will strengthen habitat networks and build resilience to climate change. At the heart of this vision is community participation. Through co-produced research, heritage exploration, and skills training, we will reconnect people with traditional practices such as coppicing and hedgelaying, while inspiring new generations to value and care for their local landscapes. Improved access, inclusive engagement, and digital resources will ensure that woodland heritage is understood, enjoyed, and protected by all. The legacy will be a resilient, cherished woodland landscape rich in wildlife, rooted in history, and supported by communities for generations to come.
