Rothbury Estate: Northumberland’s Green Heart

This acquisition project will secure the Rothbury Estate (3,800ha, equivalent to city of York!) for nature, communities and the nation. We will: - Purchase the second part of the Estate, bringing the whole of this extraordinary landscape into The Wildlife Trusts’ ownership, to protect it from being broken up into multiple ownerships; - Listen to the communities that live near, farm or use the Estate to understand their needs, hopes and concerns and to continue working with them on a shared vision where nature, community and economy are integrated and thrive together; - Lay foundations for a national flagship heritage site where nature recovery goes hand-in-hand with protecting a world-class historic environment, growing the local economy and supporting communities; - Strengthen partnership working with other landowners and the Simonside Connects Partnership and develop a shared vision for a 40-mile wildlife corridor across northern England with Rothbury Estate at its heart.
