Routes to Roots

Routes to Roots will support South Asian communities in Glasgow to reconnect with, preserve and share their cultural heritage while strengthening their sense of belonging in Scotland. Through a two-year programme of heritage walks, intergenerational storytelling, creative documentation and community archiving, the project will capture migration stories, family traditions, memories and the histories of everyday cultural objects that are at risk of being lost. Elders and young people will work together to record oral histories, map migration journeys, document heirlooms and share culinary traditions, linking personal narratives to Scotland’s natural landscapes and local heritage sites. Participants will develop skills in interviewing, digital storytelling and heritage documentation, becoming active contributors to how South Asian heritage is represented. The project will create a digital archive, community exhibition and learning resources, ensuring this heritage is preserved and accessible for future generations while widening participation in Scotland’s heritage.
