Scottish Solway INNS Control and Knowledge Programme (Phase 2)

The project would expand on a 2 year pilot 'Scottish Solway INNS control and knowledge programme' which Galloway Fisheries Trust (GFT) delivered across Dumfries and Galloway working with communities and stakeholders to increase understanding, encourage partnership working and to protect natural heritage. A project officer will work closely with key stakeholders, individuals and group(s) to put into place, and deliver, effective control of priority invasive non-native plant species (INNS). The project aims to increase knowledge across communities regarding why INNS are regarded as 'one of the 5 direct drivers for biodiversity loss' and how by working in partnerships to deliver coordinated strategic control programmes they can be eradicated. Encouraging effective biosecurity at 'high risk' locations will also be important to protect local ecology. This project will have many benefits for biodiversity, natural heritage, nature recovery and safe responsible recreational use of freshwaters.
