Apna Virsa’s project, 'Shaadi Parampara', which meaning wedding traditions, is based in Slough and will preserve the legacy of Indian wedding traditions and ensure their relevance for current and future generations within the Indian diaspora. We’ll share the joyful, colourful and intensely meaningful customs within and across Slough's diverse communities for everyone to enjoy, co-producing a range of wedding-themed community activities including crafting, singing, dance and drumming with local people. We’ll encourage sharing across cultures and generations through our memory circles, wedding-themed cultural exchange days and a celebratory community wedding festival, showcasing Indian wedding rituals, music and food and those of other cultures. Informed by earlier multi-cultural projects, 200 people have helped us shape this project and we’ll reach over 1000 more, sharing knowledge and creating physical and digital resources to safeguard the cultural legacy of Indian wedding customs for future generations.
