Culture And Memory
Through the Soothe Through Heritage project, we aim to reconnect children with the unique traditions, stories and cultural identity of Knutsford. By working with five local schools, we will explore the town’s rich heritage including May Day customs, local folklore and the legacy of figures such as Elizabeth Gaskell, and bring it to life in creative and meaningful ways. Children will learn about their local heritage through interactive storytelling, object handling and sensory activities. They will then create their own “Soothe Through Heritage” boxes, which are personal wellbeing kits filled with heritage-inspired items that offer comfort and a deeper connection to place. The project will culminate in a Museum of Calm showcase in each school, celebrating both the children’s creations and Knutsford’s heritage. Our vision is to strengthen children’s sense of identity, belonging and pride, ensuring that the heritage of Knutsford is valued, shared and passed on.
