St Leger 250: Celebrating Doncaster’s Horse Racing Heritage

Heritage Doncaster, with Doncaster Racecourse, Get Doncaster Moving, Visit Doncaster, Doncaster Archives, the Doncaster Civic Trust and a range of community partners, will deliver a year-long programme marking the 250th anniversary of the St Leger. This dynamic project will celebrate the history and enduring significance of the St Leger, and its Georgian origins. Exploring the profound influence horse racing has had, and continues to have, on Doncaster's cultural and economic identity. We will bridge the worlds of heritage and sport. Through informative and engaging activities, co-creation, preserving living memories and storytelling, we aim to inspire new audiences to connect with their heritage and rediscover the excitement and legacy of the St Leger and horse racing. We want Doncaster communities to fall in love with the St Leger again through the lens and learning provided by its history.
