Culture And Memory

Still Standing: 30 Years of Youth Work at All Saints and Across Birmingham

Still Standing will preserve the heritage of youth work through the 30-year story of All Saints Youth Project in Kings Heath — one of Birmingham's most resilient community spaces for young people. Working as heritage researchers and co-curators, current young people will record a minimum of 20 oral histories with former participants, youth workers, volunteers, families and community leaders, while collecting and digitising photographs, project materials and memories that document the centre's social and cultural legacy. Using All Saints as the project's anchor, young people will explore how its story reflects the wider history of youth work across Birmingham — including the impact of funding cuts, closures and changing community needs. Outputs will include a permanent digitised community archive, a youth-led public exhibition and a short young person-led documentary film; ensuring this important part of Birmingham's social history is preserved, shared and used to inspire future generations.
