Strength & Legacy: Capturing the Living History of Weightlifting Wales (1950s–2010/2011)

Weightlifting Wales aims to safeguard and share the living history of the sport across Wales before it is lost. Through this project, we will record the stories of former lifters, coaches and officials, and digitise important artefacts such as medals, trophies, programmes and photographs that are currently held in private collections. By creating a publicly accessible digital archive and delivering community exhibitions through our network of clubs, we will ensure this heritage is preserved and shared with communities, schools and future generations. The project will bring people together, with volunteers and community members playing a key role in identifying contributors and supporting delivery. It will strengthen connections across generations, celebrate Welsh sporting heritage, and inspire new participation in weightlifting and Para Powerlifting. Ultimately, this project will protect a unique part of Wales’ sporting identity and ensure it remains accessible, relevant and valued for years to come, before it is lost
