Swaledale & Wensleydale Evironmental Farmers - SWEF

GWCT through NCA will enable the establishment of a sustainable resilient very large group of environmentally-minded farmers and moorland managers within 2 Yorkshire dales. This is the Swaledale & Wensleydale Environmental Farmers group (SWEF). Working with them to deliver environmental goods & services wanted by society and government. At least 120 farmers covering 48,000ha have submitted written expressions of interest to join this environmental co-operative. The first benefit is that these environmental goods & services (nature recovery, habitats and hedgerows, cleaner water, flood mitigation, carbon sequestration, protection of environmental heritage assets such as stone walls, stone barns) can be delivered much more effectively by farmers collaborating, supported with expert advice, over a contiguous area, large enough to have an impact at species level. The second benefit is that farmers will be able to access future environmental trades and green finance in a way that would be impossible as individual farmers.
