Swallowed By The Waves: lost wonders of Brighton seafront

We wish to achieve greater public understanding and enjoyment of Brighton’s seafront leisure heritage and make it more accessible to parts of our local community currently facing barriers. We believe this will allow our organisation to achieve greater resilience as a seafront stakeholder. We will do this by marking the 50th anniversary of the closure to the public of Brighton West Pier with a multi-media display and roadshow on the seafront to celebrate the legacy not only of the pier itself but also of its bygone neighbouring marvels: The Royal Suspension Chain Pier; the Victorian ‘Daddy Long Legs’ boat-on-a-train-track; and the ‘Brighton Queen’ paddle steamers. We will be able to achieve our goals by delivering the project not just to seafront visitors and local schools but also to dementia sufferers, single male parents at risk of isolation, and to low-income families with access barriers to enrichment activities.
