Sweet Legacies (working title)

Through SWEET LEGACIES, marking 100 years after Joseph Rowntree’s death, we aim to uncover and share new aspects of the history/legacy of York’s Rowntree family, as explored by different groups across the city in relation to their own lives and experiences. Many would not usually participate in heritage activities: marginalised children/young people; refugees; homeless people; adults living with poor mental health. We will support them to explore aspects of the Rowntree story that spark their interest and to share their insights with a wider audience, in whatever way they choose: music, theatre, dance, film, cooking… as part of YTR’s summer season. SWEET LEGACIES will connect participants with this important heritage of York in meaningful ways that make it theirs too. We want their voices and ideas to tell the stories in new ways (preserved as a digital asset), illuminating aspects of the Rowntree legacy for York’s people/society today.
