Culture And Memory
The project shares and celebrates the important diverse cultural heritage of local folk tales with children and young people (CYP) in Leicester, aiming to preserve stories significantly at risk of not being passed down orally through generational story telling in an engaging and accessible way. CYP will research and present folk tales through storytelling, writing, music, drama and filmmaking sessions; developing and creating their own interpretations of these stories and sharing them with others both digitally online and in person. The projects legacy will see participants help to preserve their own rich cultural heritage, but also inform and educate others about shared and unique folklore; new heritage trainees developing key skills; celebrating diversity and also what values we share and connect us all as people whilst increasing wellbeing with those who engage with heritage.
