Culture And Memory

The Aden Emergency: Shedding Light on a Forgotten Conflict

Through this project, Legasee aims to preserve and share the stories of veterans who served during the Aden Emergency (1963–67). As the Aden Veterans Association prepares to formally close its northern branch, the project will record their testimonies and create lasting digital, educational and creative resources to ensure their stories live on. Blackpool is an area facing significant social and economic challenges; this project offers students and local volunteers real and relevant learning opportunities: interviewing veterans, working with filmmakers, and developing skills in communication, digital media, and historical research. Participants will also explore creative communication, such as verbatim theatre, supported by professional artists and historians. This cross-generational endeavour will connect young people with experts and veterans, raising aspirations and building confidence through collaboration. The vision is to create a legacy rooted in learning, remembrance, and community, whilst ensuring these powerful testimonies are not lost, but inspire the future.
