Culture And Memory

The Colwick Woods Audio Project

We would like to work with a wide range of volunteers and groups, particularly those working with younger people, to bring together the scattered history, knowledge and memories of one of Nottingham's oldest and most important green spaces - Colwick Woods - and to use the collection and curating of this material to attract a new generation of people to the site. Combining archival research with a programme of site investigation and training in oral history and heritage scriptwriting, we will gather knowledge from those whose memories of the woods reach back to the immediate post-war period and explore how the social and environmental function of this landscape has changed over the last seventy years. We will use this material to create a unique audio guide that combines interview, storytelling, and historical information to bring the heritage of this important Nottingham landscape alive for young and old alike.
