Nature And Landscape
The Earnse Project is a bold and exciting action-focused initiative designed to bring transformation to the natural heritage and communities of Barrow-in-Furness. A partnership between Natural England, Westmorland and Furness Council, Cumbria Wildlife Trust and Art Gene, the project will inspire meaningful action for nature. By fostering connection, creativity, wellbeing and environmental stewardship, together we will provide opportunities for the community to experience nature, creating lasting change for public health and nature recovery across Barrow. Designed with local people and closely reflecting their needs, a new community facility at Earnse Bay will be the hub of the project providing a base from which to engage with the outstanding natural beauty of Barrow and to turn the tide on local nature decline. Spokes of co-curated activity will reach out to local nature reserves and to Barrow’s schools, community centres and neighbourhoods, inspiring people of all ages to become ambassadors for nature.
