The Graveship of Holme - A Pageant

The Graveship of Holme - A Pageant is a heritage inclusion and access project working with hyperlocal rural communities in the Holme Valley, Kirklees, West Yorkshire to share memories, oral histories and photographs which celebrate their heritage, place, nature and landscapes. The Graveship of Holme is an ancient administrative structure covering 7 "townships" in the valley, managed by a Constable (Grave). The project will remove barriers to participation for people who are under-served by heritage, making these community stories more inclusive and developing knowledge and skills within local groups. It will use visual art, drama, photography/videography to interpret the heritage to co-create public performances/events/displays shared in each township over three weekends. On the fourth weekend in June, all 7 presentations will be shared at the annual Holmfirth Arts Festival, preserving legacy through a heritage map of the Graveship, webpage, photographic exhibition and further displays at Heritage Open Days in September.
